Labour federation gives budget proposals to govt
Islamabad : President of the National Labour Federation (NLF), Shamsur Rehman Swati has demanded of the government to announce a hike in salaries of employees and more minimum wages of workers in view of price hike in the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the NLF President proposed the Government fix minimum wages of workers at Rs50,000 per month as Rs20,000 amount was insufficient for a family to expenses for a kitchen and utility bills of a family. He challenged the government to assign an economic expert to prepare a monthly budget for a family of five members within Rs20,000.
“The monthly wages of Prime Minister, cabinet members, civil and military officers and judicial officers should also be fixed at Rs20,000 if this amount is sufficient for a month," the NLF President said. He added that only doing so the Government was rightful in raising the slogan of the State of Madinah. Swati also called for ending the contractual system, registration of daily wagers and bringing all the workers under labour laws, social security, EOBI and Workers Welfare Fund.
The NLF President also demanded the removal of hurdles in 25 per cent increase in salaries and adjustment of ad-hoc allowances in salaries. He further suggested reducing basic pay scales to seven from 22 in order to remove disparities in scales.
