Says Rangers don’t have mandate to act against corruption; being constitutional obligation, matter taken to provincial assembly

KARACHI/GHARO: Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Information Maula Bux Chandio has said that the Director General (DG) Rangers had reservations on two or three things on the powers to the paramilitary force as the provincial government had sent a summary to the Interior Minister as per the provincial assembly’s resolution.

He said that the Sindh government did not have the mandate to act against corruption and added that they took the issue of their powers to the Sindh Assembly as it was a constitutional obligation.

“We have talked to the DG Rangers on the issue. He has concerns over two to three things. The opposition wants to make it an issue just to serve their own interests but they will ultimately fail,” he said during an interview with Geo News and talking to the media in Gharo on Sunday.

“We have no fear. The issue of Rangers’ powers is constitutional. The summary sent to the Centre is the same we had forwarded to the Sindh Assembly,“ he added.

Meanwhile, talking to the media after attending a ‘Mehfil-e-Milad’ organised by SSP Pir Fareed Jaan near Thatta, Chandio said that the opposition parties enjoyed themselves the right of doing politics of their choice. He was of the opinion that the masses supported the PPP. He said the paramilitary force enjoyed itself powers in the province and he had high regard for them. Several anti-PPP alliances had been formed in the past but they always failed.

Chandio said, “Peace is maintained in the province as a result of a joint operation by the Rangers and the police.”To a question, he said that Centre had not launched any mega project in Sindh. They had not helped in the operation except for paying salaries to the Rangers.

Speaking about the power crisis, he said that the federal government had not managed to deal with the crisis so far despite the fact that the PML-N had claimed to address the issue within four months.Chandio assured the journalists of solving their issues including rights, financial assistance and protection on priority basis.
