KARACHI: After a thrilling competition in best-of-five matches, NBP overpowered WAPDA 3-2 in men’s event and WAPDA women beat NBP at National Badminton championship in Lahore.
In men’s final, Murad Ali put NBP 1-0 up beating Azeem Sarwar of WAPDA by 19-21, 21-17, 21-16 score.
In the first doubles match of the tie, NBP’s Rizwan and Kashif defeated Azeem Sarwar and Irfan Saeed by 17-21, 21-14, 21-17 score.
In the second singles match, Awais Zahid helped WAPDA reduce arrears beating Harrison Brent of NBP in straight sets by 21-10, 21-17.
In the second doubles, Awais and Attique helped WAPDA level the score-line 2-2 as they beat Ijaz and Murad Ali by 21-19, 21-14. In the decisive fifth match and third singles match, NBP’s Rizwan Azam dropped a set before overpowering Irfan Saeed of WAPDA, recording a 19-21, 21-16, 21-16 victory and ensuring the title for his team.
In women’s final, Palwasha Bashir put NBP 1-0 up beating Khizra Rashid of WAPDA by 21-13, 21-7.
In the first doubles match, Saima and Farzana leveled the arrears for WAPDA defeating Aisha and Sara Khan by 21-8, 21-14.
In the second singles, Mahnoor Shehzad pushed WAPDA 2-1 up, beating Aisha Akram 21-9, 21-5.
In the second doubles encounter, Palwash and Sara Mohmand of NBP thrashed Sidra and Khizra of WAPDA in straight sets by 21-19, 21-18 score to equalise the score.
In the third singles match, Saima Waqas of WAPDA recovered from a set down to beat Sara Mohmand 14-21, 21-14, 21-19 and clinch the title for her team.
