Bottled dreams
Seven decades have passed since the creation of Pakistan, but we have not been able to provide even the basic needs of life to our 200 million population. The availability of safe drinking water is one of the basic necessities, which, due to the insatiable greed of the few, has become a dream for more than 70 percent Pakistanis. Whatever water we receive through our pipelines is contaminated and unfit for consumption. The unbridled discharge of untreated industrial waste into the sea, rivers and lakes is also contaminating our available water sources.
More than 50,000 children in Pakistan die every year due to diarrhoeal diseases caused because of the use of contaminated water. The relevant authorities need to take immediate steps to provide safe drinking water to all Pakistanis.
