LANDIKOTAL: The journalists, civil society members and leaders of political parties staged a rally here on Thursday to mark the World Press Freedom Day.
Farhad Shinwari led the rally which culminated at the Landikotal Press Club. They were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans in support of press freedom.
Assistant Political Agent Niaz Muhammad, Political Tehsildar Shamsul Islam, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fata general secretary, Mufti Muhammad Ejaz, Awami National Party, Khyber Agency president, Shah Hussain Shinwari, Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Agency president Abdur Rauf Shinwari, All Torkham Custom Clearing Agents Association president, Mirajuddin Shinwari, Pakistan People’s Party leader Atta Muhammad Shinwari, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader Abdur Raziq and senior tribal journalists Qazi Fazlullah also spoke on the occasion.
The speakers said the journalists across the world including Fata did not bow to the pressures. They urged the government to take necessary steps to ensure protection to journalists.
Awareness walk: The Khyber Agency education office in collaboration with Private Schools Association held an education awareness walk here to motivate parents to enroll their out-of-school children in schools. Thousands of children from state and private schools in Landikotal marched from Landikotal bypass road and gathered at Charwazgay Chowk.
Assistant Agency Education Officer Salim Khan, local elders Malik Masal, Malkzada Nadeem Afridi and others were leading the walk.
