Truth Social launches real-time API for Wall Street traders
Truth Social launched in 2021 and is operated by Trump Media & Technology Group, which has traded on the Nasdaq since March 2024
Truth Social has launched a new paid service offering customers real-time access to posts from the social media platform, targeting financial firms and traders seeking market-moving information.
The service, known as an Application Programming Interface (API), provides subscribers with “licensed, real-time access” to posts from leading accounts on the platform, according to Trump Media & Technology Group, which owns Truth Social.
In a statement announcing the launch, interim chief executive Kevin McGurn said: “Markets already move on Truth Social posts.”
The company did not specifically mention President Donald Trump, whose @realDonaldTrump account is the platform's largest and is frequently used to publish official announcements on issues including tariffs and foreign policy.
According to reports, Wall Street firms already use similar paid data services from other social media platforms to monitor breaking news and develop trading algorithms.
The announcement has drawn criticism from ethics experts. Virginia Canter, an attorney with the Democracy Defenders Fund, said: “It’s a huge conflict of interest.”
“He has an obligation to the American people to convey information to them publicly, and he’s now funneling it through a private channel in which he has a private interest as one of its largest shareholders.”
Truth Social launched in 2021 and is operated by Trump Media & Technology Group, which has traded on the Nasdaq since March 2024.
