OpenAI, Anthropic and Google join forces on AI safety efforts

OpenAI is reportedly working on steps to address artificial intelligence safety issues with its main rivals Anthropic PBC and Google DeepMind ramping up industry-wide mobilization to respond to a growing wave of concern that the technology undermines financial and regional safety.

Meanwhile global concerns about AI’s catastrophic risk have increased after the heads of America’s leading AI labs came together to show unity regarding a temporary halt in the development of technology.

According to the report, Chris Lehane, the Chief global chief for OpenAI, has been in key talks with Anthropic and Google for several weeks and does not believe the three AI firms require an antitrust exemption to collaborate on safety standards.

Lethane said at a briefing in Washington: “ It's better to try to work together to prioritize safety.”

Lehane further said that OpenAI would back any bipartisan legislation designed to reduce catastrophic AI risks. The company is also open to a Senate proposal led by Majority Leader John Thune Republican Ted Cruz and Democrat Army Klobuchar that survives to manage severe risks. Trump on Monday dismissed a campaign driven by Anthropic and OpenAI to slow development of cutting-edge systems speaking out loud to dismiss existential fears about AI as a hoax.
