'TODAY' show horror: NBC speaks out over intruder scare
The statement comes after TODAY anchor Savannah Guthrie's announcement
Following a shocking incident at TODAY of an intruder storming on set and lunging at anchor Craig Melvin while shouting a racial slur, NBC has released the statement.
The message described, "There was a security incident this morning at the 'Today' show studio. An individual entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A."
"The person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security," the statement continued.
The intruder, according to the statement, was apprehended by the authorities.
"The individual was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident."
Despite the shocking nature of the incident, NBC assured in its statement that no one was injured.
"There was no altercation, and no one was injured. 'Today' is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter."
"NBC and 'Today' take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff, and guests extremely seriously," the message read.
