ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday observed that the building of the apex court be demolished if it was illegal. The observation was made during a case pertaining to illegal marriage halls in the capital city.
On regularisation of Banigala constructions, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar remarked, “We did not give such order (for regularisation of constructions). It’s the government’s decision either to regularise or not the constructions.” State Minster for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Tariq Fazal Chaudhry informed the court they were making regularisation of constructions in Banigala.
Additional Attorney General informed the court that it would be difficult to demolish 12 marriage halls because they were in Zone-I. He told the court that marriage halls near the Rawal Lake were illegal and owners of the halls had been sent notices.
On this, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed ruled that marriage halls in Islamabad would be demolished even at midnight if they were illegal. He remarked that there was no room for marriage halls in the limits of a national park. On this, the CDA member stated that the Rawal Marriage Hall was in the limits of the national park.
