PESHAWAR: Miqal defeated top seed Haider Ali as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Youth Badminton Championship got under way here at the Peshawar Sports Complex Tuesday.
In the juniors category, Miqal defeated Haider Ali 17-21, 21-16, 21-15. Salman beat Faisal 2-0, Umair outclassed Nouman 2-0 and Sanaullah defeated Abdal 2-0.In girls’ competitions, Urooj defeated Uzma 21-17, 19-21, 21-18 while Sumaya thrashed Irum 21-17, 21-19. In girls’ doubles match, Noureen and Iqra defeated Nazish and Irish Khan in straight sets.
Haroon Rehman cruised into the men’s singles quarter-finals along with Ihtisham, Zuhaib Khalil, Hamza Ibrahim and Tahir Khan. Haroon Rehman defeated Faraz of Police 2-1 in a thrilling match.
In the second singles match, Ihtisham defeated Nabil of Army 2-0. Under-18 champion Zuhaib Khalil outplayed Usman 2-0 while Nadeem Khan tamed Qari Adnan 2-1.Director General Youth Affairs Asfandyar Khan Khattak was the chief guest who formally inaugurated the championship.
