DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed former skipper Khaled Mahmud as the technical director of national cricket team ahead of the upcoming tri-nation One-Day International tournament and bilateral series against Sri Lanka.

“We have appointed him as the technical director of our national team,” BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz on Thursday (December 28). “The board decided that if we don’t get any replacement of our head coach immediately Mahmud will act as the technical director for the upcoming home assignments,” he said. “He will be holding the responsibility of guiding the national team and taking necessary decisions to take the team forward. As the tri-nation and the Sri Lanka series is not very far away, chances are slim that we will appoint a head coach immediately so in that sense he is in charge of Tigers,” he said.

BCB made the decision following their former head coach Chandika Hathurusingha’s departure in the middle of his tenure to join the Sri Lankan side in the same capacity.
