Online college admission system receives 63,139 applications
LAHORE: Online College Admissions System (OCAS) of Higher Education Department Punjab has received 63,139 admission applications so far.
According to a press release the online system developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has received applications for Intermediate admissions to 323 public colleges out of 716 public colleges across Punjab.
The OCAS has processed almost one million applications during the past few years. For the year 2017 among 63139 online admission applications, 31294 applications were submitted online by the candidates while 31845 were uploaded in the system by the respective colleges.
Reviewing the progress of OCAS, Dr Umar Saif, the founding Vice Chancellor Information Technology University (ITU) Punjab, Chairman PITB and Advisor to the CM Punjab, said the initiative had enhanced the efficiency as well as ensured transparency while it also eliminated the hazard of long queues and saved the precious time of youths, facilitating them to search online the college of their choice and applying from home. Free of cost availability of college brochures and online admission forms was an added feature of the system, he added. The review meeting observed that till to date applications with gender and program segregation recorded 16756 applications for ICS (66% male-34 % female), 13392 for Fsc Pre Medical (69 % female-31 % male), 12444 for FA (65 % female-35 % male), 11882 for Fsc Pre Engineering (76 % male- 24 % female), 7667 for ICom (67 % male-33 % female), 608 for D Com (96 % male-4 % female) and 544 for General Science (81 % male-19 % female). All branches of Bank of Punjab across the Punjab province are accepting the challan forms for OCAS.
