Whether Chaudhry Sarwar’s resignation was a consequence of his irreconcilable differences with the current government’s policies or his incomparable gallantry of accepting defeat in the face of a callously corrupt structure is largely unknown. This is because the former governor of Punjab failed to disclose any relevant information at his press conference.
Only time will tell how far his resignation goes to impact his decision of foregoing his British citizenship. However, one thing is certain that the former Glasgow MP, who himself is not a stranger to the controversial MPs’ expenses row in the UK, found how deep-rooted injustice and corruption are in Pakistan. The allegations levelled by Chaudhry Sarwar were not erroneous or mistaken. Sarwar should have known that in Pakistan the role of a governor is only ceremonious – he is a representative of the federation but is never heard. Therefore, expecting additional powers amongst a fleet of power-hungry politicians was not a rational notion.

Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar is a well respected member of British society. He is an honest, humble and a straightforward person.
Sarwar made a big mistake by going to Pakistan where the likes of him have no place in the higher echelons of the governing system. He should go back to the place where he is appreciated.
