Karal Interchange opened for traffic

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) on Tuesday announced opening of Karal Interchange for traffic.

The Karal Interchange is considered as a significant component of Zero Point-Rawat Signal Free Corridor and completion of project was delayed due to non-availability of funds and freezing CDA accounts by the court. The Karal Interchange project has been completed from record duration.

The construction work on the project was started by previous management of the authority headed by then chairman Maroof Afzal with Aamer Ali Ahmad and Shahid Sohail as prominent members of the board

Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will formally inaugurate the completed Karal Interchange during current month. Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Sheikh Anser Aziz visited site of the project Tuesday, the last day of the extended deadline. The project was taken over from CDA by the MCI.

The Karal Interchange is a precious gift by Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for resident of Islamabad. Special interest of Prime Minister has lead to early completion of the project.

The CDA chairman during his visit said that under guidance from Prime Minister, the project has been completed in nine to 10 months.

The installation of modern LED Lights and landscaping work will further increase beauty of the interchange. Environment Wing of MCI workers have burnt mid right oil to for landscaping of the Karal Interchange, Mayor Islamabad and Chairman, CDA Sheikh Anser Aziz further said.

On the occasion, Member Engineering and Chief Officer, MCI, Asad Mehboob Kiyani apprised the Mayor Islamabad and Chairman, CDA, Sheikh Anser Aziz that the construction work of Karal Interchange started from May, 2016. He further apprised that cost of Interchange is Rs 1.078 billion including construction of fly-over, under passes and expansion of link roads among construction of concreted roads for heavy traffic. Sui Gas, electricity and telephone services have been provided including construction of 5th Loop and carpeting of central interchange road along with lane marking. The work of installation of 300 LED Lights continued from last two days, He apprised further.

Mayor Islamabad and Chairman, CDA Sheikh Anser Aziz said that the work of Zero Point-Faizabad Signal Free Corridor has already been completed and planning of pipeline project to start earlier construction work of Karal-Rawal Signal Free Corridor has also been completed. Karal-Rawal Signal Free Corridor will also be a state of the art project for the residents of Islamabad.
