PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session was adjourned twice on Monday for lack of quorum when members from opposition benches pointed out the thin presence of lawmakers from the ruling alliance.

Deputy Speaker Dr Mehr Taj Roghani was presiding over the session which continued only for 10 minutes as after recitation from the Holy Quran and offering fateha for departed souls of traffic accidents in Havelian, when Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member Provincial Assembly Sheraz Khan pointed out to the lack of quorum.

The session was adjourned for 10 minutes as there were only 28 members present in the hall. When the session re-started, the opposition members left the assembly hall. The issue of lack of quorum resurfaced.

The thin presence of treasury members didn’t meet the required strength in the 124-member House.Later talking to reporters, opposition members said they had cooperated with the government in running the assembly business for more than three years but now they would create problems for the treasury benches as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government did not release developmental funds to the opposition MPAs in the current financial year.
