Women, youth urged to take active part in elections
NAWABSHAH: A single vote could change the fate of the county, and especially youths and women must exercise their right to franchise. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nouman Siddique while addressing a seminar on the National Voters Day at the Darbar Hall here.
He said that casting of votes on communal basis had damaged the quality of elections because this practice deprived the more deserving candidates from being elected. The deputy commissioner said this practice continued to stagnate the system instead of bringing about any worthwhile change.
He said that the number of women who exercised their right to franchise did not reflect their majority status. On the other hand, the youths were not even aware of the importance of the vote, and so they did not bother to cast their votes, said Muhammad Nouman Siddique.
The deputy commissioner said that the Election Commission was very active, and NADRA had also displayed tremendous improvement. He proposed holding of programmes at the universities and colleges to highlight the importance of the vote.
The Director-General of PITE, Ghulam Asghar Memon, told the seminar the vote had its importance, and it could bring about a positive change. Assistant Commissioner Faisal Saleem said that casting one’s vote wisely today would have a positive reflection on the future. He said that the political parties were also responsible for the enlisting of new voters in the electoral college.
The Chairman of the Municipal Committee, Muhammad Azeem Mughal, said that enlisting of new voters in the electoral college was the need of the hour. Later, a walk was organized from the office of the deputy commissioner to the Nawabshah Press Club.
