FC foils subversive act, recovers 10kg IED

LEHRI: The Frontier Corps foiled a bid of subversive act in Lehri and recovered locally made improvised explosive device, on Sunday. The FC foiled a terror bid and recovered 10kg of locally made improvised explosive devices buried along Phuleji Chattar Road, which were later defused. The bombs were planted to target a local personality and security forces officials.

 

Is IS leader al-Baghdadi dead?

MOSUL: An alleged meeting of senior Isis officials to discuss a successor to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has sparked rumours that the terror group's leader has been killed. Sources have told the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is based in London, that all of Isis' leaders gather for an emergency meeting in Iraq, according to a foreign media report.  It has not been confirmed why the group is looking to replace him.

 

Mainstream politicians root cause
of people’s miseries: Hurriyet

SRINAGAR: APHC(G) has said mainstream politicians and their lust for power were the root cause of all the miseries of the people of Kashmir. “Their crocodile’s tears are nothing but to lure the common masses,” a Hurriyet statement said.  “These multi-faced stooges have been defending and supporting the brutal rule and through deceitful slogans have befooled the people since 1947.” Hurriyet said, “In those long days of political waywardness people were subjected to untold atrocities, tortured in jails and interrogation centers, but traitors were negotiating on the blood and flesh of these sufferers for their power.”

 

Imran reneged on pledges, says Muqam

BISHAM: Advisor to Prime Minister Ameer Muqam said on Sunday that PTI Chairman Imran Khan couldn't honour the election pledges made to the people of KP. Presiding over a meeting of all the district and tehsil councillors, he said there was no harm in dreaming to become the prime minister, but one needed to work hard and come up to the expectations of the people instead of resorting to empty rhetoric.He said that Imran Khan deceived the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when he pledged to root out corruption in 90  days. "The people are mature. They cannot be misled and hoodwinked forever," he maintained.

                        

India claims killing intruder at Pathankot border

CHANDIGARH: The BSF allegedly foiled a cross-border intrusion bid after its troopers shot dead a suspect at Dhinda post in Pathankot district, reported Indian media.The BSF personnel shot the intruder dead on Friday night after he came close to the border fencing in Bamiyal area, a police official posted in Pathankot said on Saturday.Meanwhile, a massive search operation was launched in Pathankot after a local resident claimed to have spotted four to five armed men roaming around suspiciously.As many as 250 security personnel, including SWAT commandos, were deployed in the search operation in the hilly areas located on the border of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

       

Lowari Tunnel: New schedule for traffic worries travellers

CHITRAL: The residents of the district are worried over the announcement that Lowari Tunnel would remain closed for traffic for six days a week.The tunnel, which is in final stages of completion, would remain open for traffic three days a week earlier. However, according to the new schedule, it would remain open for a day. The sources said that major work inside the tunnel had been completed and people could travel through the tunnel throughout the week.An engineer working at the tunnel told The News on the condition of anonymity that it could be used twice a day at the time of shift changing. "During the morning, the vehicle travelling out of Chitral could pass through the tunnel while in the evening those entering the district could use it," the engineer said.He added that this procedure would help continue work without any disruption and at the same time inconvenience to the people could also be avoided.

One killed, seven injured in

Kaghan Valley road accident

MANSEHRA: A driver of Postgraduate College Mardan was killed and three teachers and four students injured when their bus met an accident in Kaghan valley on Sunday. Jamal Zeb, a spokesman of Mansehra police, told reporters that 27 students and their three teachers were on their way back to Mardan after their study tour of Kaghan valley. The driver could not control the steering because of brake failure and as a result the vehicle overturned, Jamal said, adding, the driver of the vehicle died instantly and seven people were injured. Locals and police rushed to the scene and shifted the victims to the Civil Hospital in Balakot.

 

20 wheelchairs distributed in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: The Al-Khidmat Foundation distributed 20 wheelchairs among the special persons during a ceremony here on Sunday.Al-Khidmat Foundation district chapter general secretary Zahoor Ahmad Zarifkhel, Amanul Mulk Kokab, Shafiq Khan and Maulana Adam Khan were present on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion, they said that educating special persons and provide them trainings was the responsibility of every citizen. "We have to educate them as they have five percent quota in government jobs," Zahoor Ahmad said.

 

KP CM visits victims’ family

NOWSHERA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Sunday visited the family of the woman and her son who were killed in Bela Koroona in Pirpiai. Unidentified persons shot dead Samina and her five-year-old son in Bela Koroona on Saturday. Pervez Khattak told the bereaved family that Station House Officer Gul Wali had been suspended and a departmental inquiry had been initiated.Brother of the woman, Sher Baz, had accused the SHO of torturing him. The medical examination of Sher Baz was conducted at the Mian Rashid Hussain Shaheed Hospital and the report would be forwarded to the inquiry committee.Pervez Khattak said that the cop would be dismissed from service if the allegation of torture was proved.Meanwhile, Kiramatullah, former brother-in-law of the deceased woman registered a case against Sher Baz for killing his former sister-in-law and nephew while Sher Baz nominated his former brother-in-law Aziz in the FIR.

 

Tributes paid to poet Rafiq Aasi

PESHAWAR: Poets and educationists paid tributes to known poet Mohammad Rafiq Aasi at an event held in a picturesque mountainous area that links Mardan district with Buner. The poets and educationists spoke at the function held in the Sangaho mountain range in Katlang area of Mardan. They highlighted Rafiq Aasi's contribution to poetry and literature. The event, moderated by Tahir Ali, was arranged and hosted by Dr Shabbir Ahmad Khan. Tahir Ali welcomed the participants and threw light on the purpose of the programme and future plans of the organisers. Intellectuals, social workers, educationists, poets and elders from the area and across the district attended the event. Prominent amongst the participants were Prof Dr Farman Ali, former nazim of Malakand Fida Muhammad, Prof Gohar Naveed and Prof Mumtazuddin.

 

Four injured in Bannu incidents

BANNU: Four persons including a cop sustained injuries in separate incidents in the district on Sunday, official sources said. They said that one Khad Ayaz was on his way in Naar Jafar area when Nawaz allegedly fired at him, leaving him injured. Meanwhile, a cop identified as Farman was injured in road accident Maira Qala while Sajid Khan and Ihsan sustained injuries when two motorbikes collided in Chakad Addan area. The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu. The police registered separate cases and started investigation.

 

Man shot dead in Bannu

BANNU: A man was shot dead in the limits of the Basiakhel Police Station here on Sunday, official sources said.They said that Mir Daraz was asleep at his home when unidentified gunmen fired at him in the limits of the Basiakhel Police Station, killing him instantly. Motive behind the incident could not be ascertained.Meanwhile, one Aftab was on his way when his auto rickshaw struck an electricity pylon in Basiakhel area. As a result, he was killed on the spot.

 

LANDIKOTAL: Former federal minister Noorul Haq Qadri on Sunday urged his supporters to discourage social evils and unite against those who want to see a militarily and economically weak Pakistan.Qadri said this while speaking to a gathering titled "Mehfel-e-Darood-o-Salam" at Shalman Babajee shrine in Landikotal.Around 10,000 followers and supporters from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata attended the gathering.
