Stand for Quetta
Terror is back with a vengeance in Quetta. Monday night (Oct 24) witnessed a horrific massacre when a group of terrorists attacked the Police Training Center at Sariab Road, Quetta. The brutal attack left over 60 cadets martyred and 119 trainees injured. One of the brazen assailants was shot dead by the security forces while two other blew themselves up by detonating their suicide jackets.
This ghastly attack shows that it is the strategy of terrorists to go to their hide-outs for a certain stretch of time and strike when they find a soft target. As it is our routine to condemn such heinous crimes, extend condolences to the bereaved families and convene emergency meetings at such occasions, all this will be repeated but all this will not help overpower the country’s enemies. Quetta has been a victim of terrorism for years. Unless NAP is exercised with full might and in an inclusive manner, peace will be a distant dream in our country.

It is very tragic that over 60 police cadets passed away in one of the deadliest military attacks. If the police cannot protect themselves, how would they ensure safety of the citizens of the country?
The sad part of the incident is that the Balochistan government had earlier received threats but it still didn’t take any serious action. The concerned authorities are requested to carry out a thorough investigation and give serious punishments to the culprits.

This refers to the letter ‘Quetta bleeds’, (Oct 26) by Iftikhar Malik. Those in-charge of the concerned police training centre and supervisory officers should be held accountable for their negligence as they had failed to provide security to cadets.
Condemnation of the attack by the top leaderships is not enough when hundreds of families have been devastated due to the large-scale killing. Strict action against those responsible for this attack is needed.
