6,000 policemen to provide security to ‘Majalis’, processions

A total of 505 ‘Majalis’ and 195 ‘Matmi’ processions will be held here in Rawalpindi on the 7th, 9th and 10th of Muharram, while 6,000 policemen will perform duty for security on the occasion. The local management and security agencies have declared 25 points as ‘most sensitive’ while 109 flash points on 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram.

As many as 52 ‘Matmi’ processions will be held on 7th, 79 on 9th and 64 on 10th of Muharram.

Similarly, around 186 ‘Majalis’ on 7th, 206 on 9th and 113 ‘Majalis’ will be held on 10th of Muharram.

According to Muharram plan of 7th, 9th and 10th chalked out by Commissioner Rawalpindi Division (office), that concerned security agencies have divided ‘Majalis’ and ‘Matmi’ processions in A, B and C categories.

On 7th of Muharram today (Sunday), 186 ‘Majalis’ and 52 ‘Matmi’ processions will be held in Rawalpindi. A total of 22 ‘Majalis’ will be held in ‘A’ category, 31 in ‘B’ category and 126 in ‘C’ category. Similarly, 9 ‘Matmi’ processions will be held in ‘A’ category, 15 in ‘B’ category and 28 processions in ‘C’ category.

On 9th of Muharram, 206 ‘Majalis’ and 79 ‘Matmi’ processions will be held in Rawalpindi. As many as 24 ‘Majalis’ will be held in ‘A’ category, 36 in ‘B’ category and 146 in ‘C’ category, while 6 ‘Matmi’ processions will be held in ‘A’ category, 18 in ‘B’ category and 55 processions in ‘C’ category.

On 10th of Muharram, 113 ‘Majalis’ and 64 ‘Zuljinnah’ processions will be held in Rawalpindi. A total of 12 ‘Majalis’ will be in ‘A’ category, 15 ‘Majalis’ in ‘B’ category and 86 ‘Majalis’ in ‘C’ category. Similarly, 10 ‘Matmi’ processions in ‘A’ category, 8 processions in ‘B’ category and 40 processions in ‘C’ category.

A total of 559 registered ‘Sabeels’ to be held on procession routes on 7th, 9th and 10 of Muharram. While unregistered ‘Sabeel’ will not be entertained. The health officials will also check and monitor ‘Langers’ and ‘Sabeels’ along procession routes on 7th, 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram.

A total of 1916 ‘Majalis’ and 447 ‘Matmi’ processions will be held from 1st Muharram to 10th of Muharram. While there are 2,265 Imambaghas and Mosques situated in Rawalpindi.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Azmat Mehmood said that we have established a District Control Room to coordinate all departments. The District Control Room will monitor all activities on the occasion. All allied hospitals, Rescue-1122, Civil Defense, TMA, Potohar Town and other civic bodies will be on duty on the occasion, he claimed. He said that we have also established a District Peace Committee which will work with all departments.

The mourning processions will leave from different Imambaghas, while majority of processions like ‘Ashura’ procession will appear from Imambargha Col (r) Maqbool and end at Imambargha Qadeemi after passing through the College Road, Sarafa Bazaar, Babra Bazaar, Trunk Bazaar, Mochi Bazaar and Jamia Masjid Road.

According to City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Abbasi patrolling rescue officials will escort mourners in places where rescue vehicles could not enter. Security at all points, particularly sensitive points has been beefed up on account of the 7th, 9th and 10th of Muharram. He said peace committees comprising ulema of various sects have been formed. The CPO asked the media persons not to pay heed to rumours and disinformation about security issues during Muharram and they need to contact him for verified information.
