Woman beaten on suspicion of kidnapping

A woman was thrashed by a mob in Shalimar on suspicion of being a kidnapper.

The victim, Sadia, of Bogiwal along with her 10-year-old son Adil was passing through a street near her house. Suddenly, a family stopped her and started beating her suspecting that she had kidnapped the boy. They called their neighbours who also thrashed the woman. Police reached the spot and rescued the victim.

SHO Shalimar said the victim had tried to sneak into a house to steal something, but the family captured her. The woman told the police that she was going with her son whose complexion was fair unlike her. People of the area doubted that the boy was not his son and started beating her, the SHO said. He said the parties, woman and the family refused to initiate any legal action. This is not the first incident of beating up of people on suspicion of being kidnappers. At least 26 such incidents have been reported so far in the city.

Media: Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera Monday met with the electronic and print media journalists at an informal meeting arranged at Central Police Office. 

Talking to the media representatives, the IGP said the commonality of the working of police and journalist is the same as both are trying to eliminate crime from society and ensure provision of the justice to the needy people.

He said as compared to the other stakeholders of society the role of the media is very important as they can help the police department provide justice.
