CM orders work on Peshawar beautification expedited

Wants parks’ care through management committees; Chowk Yadgar & Ghanta Ghar monuments back to original positions; directs all private marriage halls to have parking lots

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has called for putting on fast-track the projects initiated by the government for uplift and beautification of Peshawar.

He was presiding over a meeting on the beautification and uplift of the Peshawar city here at the Chief Minister’s House on Friday, said an official handout. Senior Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Inayatullah Khan, and other officials concerned attended the meeting.

The participants of the meeting were given a detailed presentation on uplift and beautification of Peshawar. The chief minister said the Rapid Bus Service System is an integrated solution to the entire traffic hazard in Peshawar. “It is expected to be on ground towards the end of this year,” he added.

This project would interlink the entire city the main roads with connectivity’s to the entire city. He said Dilazak Road, Shami Road, University Road, GT Road and other link roads, which would become part of the integrated Rapid Bus Service System in Peshawar, needed cleanliness and proper look.

Pervez Khattak directed the initiation of the practical work on flyovers crossing Pir Zakori Bridge in city and de-tour bridge at Hayatabad. The chief minister wanted a plan to bring historic Chowk Yadgar and Ghanta Ghar back to their original positions.

He called for the plantation, developing landscaping at different spots of Motorway, Grand Trunk Road and plantation in all spots where the construction work has already been done.

The chief minister directed to expedite the take-over and possession of different parks and ensure their look after through management committees at the town level. He said the marriage hall at Gor Khatri and the Rescue 1122 should be handed over to the relevant departments along with belongings.

The chief minister directed that all private marriage halls should have the space for car parking, etc. Peshawar, he added, would have two food streets next month. He said 150 tube-wells had been dug to resolve the water shortage problem in the city.

The chief minister said sewerage system should be flawless, adding, the provincial government would continue to provide resources for the projects but said it is mandatory for the towns to spend at least five percent money on the beautification and they can allocate additional amount as well.

The chief minister constituted a committee comprising Member Provincial Assembly Shaukat Yousafzai, District Nazim Muhammad Asim Khan and Peshawar Development Authority Director General Saleem Hassan Watto to visit different localities of Peshawar city, including Chowk Yadgar and present a detailed report about the requirements needed to improve the interior city.
