ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasised the need to expand trade and economic cooperation with Oman, particularly in the sectors of information technology, construction, healthcare, food security, and energy.

The Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Pakistan, Fahad Sulaiman Khalaf Alkharusi, called on President Zardari at Aiwan e Sadr on Wednesday to discuss ways of further strengthening bilateral relations.

Both sides underscored the importance of deepening ties for the mutual benefit of the two brotherly nations.

During the meeting, President Zardari said that Pakistan and Oman enjoy close fraternal relations rooted in shared religion, culture, and values. He said that enhanced interaction at the leadership level would further reinforce the cordial ties between the two countries.

The president reiterated Pakistan’s keenness to boost bilateral trade and investment in key areas, including IT, construction, healthcare, food security, and energy. He stressed that government-to-government engagement could pave the way for stronger private-sector collaboration, ultimately increasing trade and economic integration.

President Zardari also expressed gratitude to Oman for supporting Pakistan’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 term.

In addition, he appreciated Oman for hosting over 400,000 Pakistanis, saying that the diaspora not only contributes to Oman’s development but also serves as a vital bridge of friendship between the two countries.
