Arshad Nadeem returns to intense training, targets World Athletics
ISLAMABAD: Olympic record-holder and national hero Arshad Nadeem has taken a major stride in his comeback journey, resuming intense physical training. The javelin ace, who brought immense pride to the nation with his historic performance at the Paris Olympics, is now under the meticulous care of renowned sports surgeon Dr Ali Sher Bajwa at the Villar Bajwa Practice in Cambridge.
In an exclusive conversation with The News, Dr Bajwa confirmed that Arshad’s recovery is progressing steadily, with notable improvements witnessed in recent weeks. “Arshad has successfully started loading the previously injured leg and has now moved on to full-fledged physical training,” Dr Bajwa revealed. “His dedication is commendable, and his fitness level is improving with each passing day. I’m quite satisfied with his rehabilitation so far.”
However, fans eager to see Arshad back in competitive action will have to wait a little longer. As previously reported by The News, the celebrated thrower is unlikely to participate in the upcoming Diamond League meet in Poland, scheduled for next week.
“While his recovery is on track, it would be premature to thrust him into the rigors of elite competition just yet,” Dr Bajwa stated. “The Diamond League is too close, and although Arshad’s response to rehab is positive, we’re aiming for full fitness before returning to the international circuit.”
The ultimate goal remains clear: a triumphant return at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo next month, where Arshad could once again make headlines on the global stage. “Our focus is to have him fully ready for the World Championships. I must emphasize this is a fresh injury, not a recurrence of the previous one so the rehabilitation approach has been tailored accordingly,” Dr Bajwa explained. “While the Diamond League in August is off the table, the World Championships in September are still a possibility, depending entirely on his response to the next critical phase of training.”
Dr Bajwa also praised Arshad’s relentless work ethic and mental resilience, both of which have played a vital role in his road to recovery. “He’s pushing himself hard in the gym and staying mentally sharp. The discipline he’s shown is impressive. If he maintains this trajectory, there’s every reason to hope for his return to top form just in time for the world stage.”
