HARIPUR: Seven people, including two women, were killed during Eid days in different parts of the district, police and hospital sources said on Monday.
It was learnt that three people died from drowning, while three died of injuries caused by a firearm, and one was believed to have committed suicide by jumping into a water well. Police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that four teenage friends were bathing in the Tarbela Dam reservoir near Chakhaee village when they slipped into deep waters and drowned.
However, local divers managed to rescue two of them. The bodies of the two were recovered after an effort of three hours. The deceased were identified as Arsalan, 13, and Ahmad, 14.In another similar incident, one Muhammad Shafique, 24, a resident of Siribang village, drowned in Noori waterfall and the local divers succeeded in fishing out the body after two hours.
According to Khanpur police, one Hassan Ali, 26, a resident of Khanpur, was married to Sadaf Bibi, 19, about six months back and both were living a happy life. On the second day of Eid, both were in their bedroom when the family heard gunshots and found that the newlyweds were lying in a pool of blood.
The relatives shifted the injured to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Khanpur, where the doctors pronounced them dead.Police believed that the circumstantial evidence supported the act of murder of a woman at the hands of her husband, who also committed suicide. Hospital sources said that the woman suffered two bullet shots while a single shot in the head caused the death of her husband.
The police launched an investigation into the incident.The same evening, two friends from Buttri village had a quarrel, which resulted in the murder of a boy in his teens at the hands of his close friend. Police said that Masood Khan from the same village opened fire at Daniyal Khan over a petty dispute, critically injuring him.
The injured was shifted to the Trauma centre but succumbed to bullet wounds when he was being transferred to Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad. Police claimed to have arrested the alleged murderer. Police said on Monday, the body of a woman identified as Irum Bibi, 45, was recovered from the water well in Chechiyan village. Police alleged that the woman had committed suicide.
