Rescue 1122 assists 1,897 individuals

PESHAWAR: The Rescue 1122 provided medical assistance to 1897 individuals while responding to 1,999 emergency calls during Eidul Azha.

An official said that despite the extensive safety efforts, 55 lives were lost in various incidents across the province during the holidays.To safeguard the influx of tourists and local communities, special medical camps were established at major tourist destinations.

“Also, dedicated water rescue teams were deployed at rivers and dams throughout the province to avoid any emergency,” said Bilal Ahmad Faizi, spokesperson for Rescue 1122. These included road traffic accidents, fire outbreaks, drowning incidents, and firearm-related cases. The injured received timely first aid and were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals, he said.

According to Director General Rescue 1122 Shah Fahad, the breakdown of incidents included 1,400 medical emergencies, 349 road traffic accidents (with 43 in Peshawar alone), 112 fire-related incidents, six drowning cases, 82 recovery operations and 50 crime-related emergencies.

He added that the Rescue 1122 teams responded to 418 emergencies only in Peshawar. The incidents included 43 traffic accidents, 338 medical emergencies, 20 fire incidents, 8 firearm injuries, and 11 recovery operations.

Among those 55 who died across KP included 13 were in Peshawar, 14 in Mardan, 3 each in Nowshera, Bajaur, and Kurram, 4 in Haripur, 2 each in DI Khan, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, and Battagram and one each in North Waziristan, Kohat, and Khyber. The DG lauded the tireless dedication of Rescue 1122 personnel during the holidays, reaffirming the department’s commitment to public safety.
