Heat warning in Ontario: here’s what you can do to stay safe during extreme heat waves
Health officials say early signs of heat exhaustion include headaches, dizziness, nausea, extreme tiredness, thirst and dark urine
Environment Canada has continued a Yellow Level Heat Warning for the Blind River, Thessalon, Elliot Lake and Ranger Lake areas, with forecasters warning that the hottest conditions are expected on Tuesday.
Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach between 30C and 37C, while overnight lows are expected to remain between 20C and 24C. Humidex values could climb as high as 45.
The heat is expected to continue until Wednesday or Thursday evening.
Residents are being advised to stay hydrated by drinking water before feeling thirsty, spend time in air-conditioned or cool spaces where possible, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
Officials also recommend wearing lightweight, light-coloured clothing and checking on older adults, young children and others who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.
Environment Canada also warned that hot and humid conditions could reduce air quality. People with respiratory conditions are advised to limit strenuous outdoor activity and monitor local air quality updates.
Health officials say early signs of heat exhaustion include headaches, dizziness, nausea, extreme tiredness, thirst and dark urine.
Anyone showing symptoms such as hot, red skin, confusion, loss of consciousness or severe dizziness should receive immediate medical attention by calling 9-1-1 while being moved to a cool place and cooled with water or ice packs.
