ISLAMABAD: Former Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani said that the indictment of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan by the Musharraf government is a shame and demanded that the government should withdraw its previous position and the status of Dr Abdul Qadeer should be restored.

“It is strange how the architect of the nuclear programme was murdered through the judiciary under an international conspiracy and how the person who originally created it was shamed by a dictator at the behest of the international community,” he said on Wednesday.

Rabbani emphasised that history should not be distorted, as it plays a crucial role in building a nation. He stated that it is a fact that Pakistan’s nuclear programme was conceived and executed under the vision of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who viewed it as a means of deterrence. He said it was through his clandestine diplomacy and work that the framework of the nuclear program came into being. The former Chairman Senate said that it was Bhutto’s efforts that put together the team headed by Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.

Raza Rabbani stated that Pakistan’s missile program was established and developed during Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s tenure. “This is recorded history,” he affirmed.
