Islamabad:In a landmark move toward strengthening the country’s education landscape, ministers from the centre and all provinces came together at the prestigious World Forum on Education in London to announce the launch of a biannual interprovincial ministerial meeting.

The initiative, supported by the British Council and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, aims to enhance cooperation across Pakistan's fragmented education systems, according to officials.

They said the new platform was designed to sustain the momentum generated at the World Forum, where education leaders from around the globe gathered to chart pathways for equitable and inclusive learning.

The officials said for Pakistan, the commitment signalled a turning point—toward cross-provincial collaboration, shared learning and national policy alignment that transcended political divides.

The Pakistani delegation was led by state education minister Wajiha Qamar and included provincial education ministers and secretaries from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Delegates announced commitment to transform their engagement into tangible education reforms, including through strategic partnerships with UK institutions. They agreed to deepen cooperation with the British Council on teacher training, digital education, curriculum reform and youth skills development. The ministers also explored future collaborations between Pakistan and the Scottish government to improve teacher training and capacity building.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott CMG OBE said education was vital for young people being able to fulfil their potential and lead rewarding lives. She said it’s essential for growth, productivity, and prosperity.
