The names of three candidates have been selected for the post of vice chancellor of the second largest university of the province, the University of Sindh.
Former VC of Tando Jam Agriculture University Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri is in first place, acting VC Khalilur Rehman Kambati in second place, and Rector of Institute of Management Sciences Tariq Rahim Soomro in third place.
These three names will be sent to intelligence agencies for clearance, following which the province’s chief minister will interview these three candidates and approve one of them.
Chaired by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Tariq Rafi, interviews for the post of VC of the University of Sindh continued for three days, with around 60 of the more than 70 candidates who had applied for the post called in for an interview.
The members of the search committee were Sindh HEC Secretary Moin Siddiqui, Universities & Boards Secretary Abbas Baloch, Colleges Secretary Shahab Qamar Ansari, Dr Pirzada Qasim and non-PhD member Sohail Akbar Shah, who interviewed the candidates.
The four-year term of University of Sindh VC Dr Kalhoro expired this January, and the CM did not grant him a second tenure. Since he is over 62 years old, he is ineligible to apply again, due to which the university does not have a permanent VC for the past four months. Sindh is the only province where the age limit of a VC is 62 years, while the age limit in the other provinces, the federation, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan is 65 years.
