Love Island is making huge villa changes among many other surprise twists in the upcoming season.

After the strong reaction to last year’s season, producers behind the reality show are teasing major twists. The team behind the ITV dating show has admitted they knew expectations would be much higher for 2026.

Now, the new series is set to try bigger risks, new gameplay elements, and changes that have never been attempted before in the show’s history.

During a media visit to the Spanish villa, producers revealed that the new season will heavily lean into a football-inspired theme connected to the World Cup. They also hinted that competition inside the villa will become more strategic this year.

“There isn’t just going to be gameplay on the pitch, there will also be gameplay in the villa,” the producers said.

They also confirmed that the opening episode will include a major surprise for viewers. The team has said the first day of the series will feature something the show has never done before.

Producers now hope the changes pay off after taking “big risks” with the format.

The villa itself has also been updated for the new season. Producers said there is now more space and more beds, which could mean more bombshell contestants entering throughout the series.

The team pointed to last year’s winner, Toni Laites, as proof that bold casting decisions can work. Toni became the first American contestant to win the UK version of the show after entering as a bombshell.

Elsewhere, ITV has officially rebranded the companion podcast as Love Island: The Debrief. The show will be hosted by Toni alongside fellow finalists Shakira Khan and Yasmin Pettet.

The podcast will air every weekday at 10pm directly after Love Island and will also be available on ITVX.

Producers also confirmed that dumped Islanders will appear on the podcast to discuss their experiences and share their opinions on villa drama after leaving the show.
