Usman Tariq cleared of suspect bowling action
LAHORE: Quetta Gladiators’ off-spinner Usman Tariq has been officially cleared of his suspect bowling action, just in time for the playoff stages of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10.
Tariq’s action was reported during his team’s match against Lahore Qalandars on April 13, with on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown flagging concerns. However, after undergoing testing at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)-accredited biomechanics lab in Lahore, the PCB confirmed on Wednesday that the spinner has passed his bowling assessment.
“Quetta Gladiators spinner Usman Tariq, who was earlier reported for a suspect bowling action, has cleared his bowling assessment after undergoing testing at the PCB-accredited biomechanics lab in Lahore,” the PCB stated in a press release.
The Quetta Gladiators management had requested the PCB to allow Tariq to undergo testing, following which he was cleared to continue bowling in the tournament. This is not the first time Tariq has faced scrutiny over his action. He was also reported during PSL 9, where he played five matches and took only two wickets. In PSL 10, he has shown improvement, claiming three wickets in two games so far. With Tariq now cleared, Quetta Gladiators will be looking to strengthen their bowling attack as they head into the crucial playoff stage of the tournament.
