Waqar Hussain Phulpoto assumes charge of Sepa director general
SUKKUR: Waqar Hussain Phulpoto has assumed the charge of the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (Sepa) director general.
After the chief minister’s approval, Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah notified Phulpoto as the new head of the environment watchdog. After assuming the charge, Phulpoto in a meeting emphasised the need for an efficient disposal mechanism for hazardous waste material at incinerator plants, ensuring environmental safety and public health.
He said those involved in unsafe practices would be dealt with iron fist. He added that fake incineration service providers would not be spared from legal action. He pointed out that if any staff member of Sepa was found involved in supporting unsafe practices of hazardous waste disposal, they would be placed under suspension.
The current performance and functioning status of the incineration plants were also reviewed during the meeting, with a focus on maintaining operational excellence. He said Sepa was committed to safeguarding the environment and public health by enforcing stringent waste disposal practices and other pollution control measures.
