FAPUASA stresses unity for common goals in AGEGA moot
Islamabad:A high-level meeting organised by All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) held at the Sports Board Islamabad was attended by leadership from all major employees' associations across the country.
Representing Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA), its President Dr Mazhar Iqbal, Information Secretary Dr Muhammad Jadoon Khan and President of FAPUASA Islamabad Chapter Dr Iqbal Jatoi, actively participated in the meeting. During the meeting, the President of AGEGA, Rehman Ali Bajwa, expressed gratitude to FAPUASA and other academic associations for their unwavering support and active participation in AGEGA-led protests. He emphasised the critical need for unity among all employees’ associations to achieve shared objectives. He highlighted AGEGA’s achievements over the years. He congratulated FAPUASA and academic community for restoration of the 25% tax rebate for teachers and researchers and thanked the same bodies for their support in restoration of 25% tax rebate.
On behalf of FAPUASA, Prof Mazhar Iqbal thanked the leadership of AGEGA for their consistent and clear stance on issues concerning the academic community, especially their support in restoration of the tax rebate. He underscored the importance of sustained cooperation and collective action to secure further gains for university faculty and researchers. In the meeting, the leadership of AGEGA and FAPUASA agreed on a joint strategy focusing on a unified struggle for increasing the budget allocation for universities. They called for linking any increase in salary and pension of university staff with corresponding increase in recurring budget of the universities. They advocated for a unified promotion policy for Basic Pay Scale (BPS) of university teachers across Pakistan. FAPUASA reaffirmed its commitment to continue working closely with all stakeholders to advance the rights and welfare of the academic community and ensure the promotion of higher education in Pakistan.
