Karachi MIA
While Sindh resists the construction of new canals on the Indus River, Karachi – the provincial capital – remains noticeably silent. This apathy is alarming, considering that Karachi’s primary water source, Keenjhar Lake, depends directly on the Indus. If these canals are constructed, the lake could dry up, leaving millions in Karachi at risk of severe water shortages.
This not just a rural issue, but one that affects the entire province, including Karachi. It is imperative for the people of Karachi to recognise the gravity of this crisis and actively participate in the campaign against the canal projects. Collective action is essential to protect our water rights and avoid an impending humanitarian and urban disaster. Silence will only hasten the deprivation of the province’s water resources and compound its problems.
