ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Russia have stepped up collaboration on counter-terrorism, recognising the evolving threat of transnational terrorism that demands adaptive and cooperative strategies to ensure regional and global security.
These discussions took place during the 11th meeting of the Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group to Counter International Terrorism in Moscow, said the Foreign Office, and the deliberations will continue on Wednesday (today). “Pakistan’s delegation led by the Special Secretary (United Nations), Nabeel Munir, and the Russian side led by Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Vershinin, held an in-depth exchange of views on the global and regional terrorism landscape, with particular attention to the evolving threat posed by terrorism in Afghanistan and the region,” said the statement.
“The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their resolve to strengthen cooperation amid shared challenges posed by militants. They also recognised that collective efforts remain essential to maintaining regional and global stability,” the Pakistani foreign ministry added, and both sides decided to hold the working group’s next meeting in 2026.
The Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group to Counter International Terrorism, which has earlier held 10 such meetings, provides both sides with an opportunity to share their experiences and best practices in battling militancy.
