The Boards and Universities Department has sent a summary to the Sindh chief minister for the appointment of acting chairman to the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) and the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad.

For the post of chairman of the BIEK, it has been recommended to give additional charge to Board of Secondary Education Karachi Chairman Ghulam Hussain Sohoo or to Sindh Board of Technical Education Chairman Musharraf Ali Rajput, while for the post of Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad Board, it has been recommended to give additional charge to Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Mirpurkhas Chairman Mansoor Ali Rajput or Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Nawabshah Dr. Asif Memon.

The Department of Boards and Universities is hesitant to appoint permanent chairmen to the BIEK and the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad due to concerns over the selection process, because in Sindh, the Intermediate Board Karachi and the Hyderabad Board are considered to be among the big and important boards and the candidates for the post of chairman are also preferred by these two boards.

Therefore, it would be inappropriate to appoint candidates with low marks in the additional panel and this move may also be challenged in the court. The acting chairman should be appointed here for the time being and the post of permanent chairman should be re-advertised in both the boards.

According to the rules, the next candidate recommended by the search committee for both boards are Faqir Muhammad Lakho, who is currently posted as regional director colleges in Karachi. He scored 55.80 marks, followed by Dr Shuja with 55.80 marks, Colonel (retd) Syed Muhammad Alamdar Raza with 55.40 marks, Dr Zulfiqar Ali Memon with 53.20 marks, Abid Ali Mughal with 52 marks, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah with 51.25 marks, Qazi Arif Ali with 51 marks, Javed Ali Memon with 50.67 marks, and Ali Gohar Chang and Pir Sohail Ahmed Sirhandi with 50 marks.
