LAHORE:Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab government is reviving the historical Mela Chiraghan at Shalimar Gardens after 67 years, celebrating the region’s cultural and Sufi heritage.
Organised by the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), this four-day festival will start tomorrow (Friday), at the Shalimar Gardens and shrine of Madho Lal Hussain, featuring a diverse range of events.
Daytime activities will include lectures by scholars and historians, panel discussions on the teachings of Shah Hussain, recitations of his Kafis, and Punjabi poetry sessions. The evening events will feature Sufi folk qawali performances, gatherings of Sufi saints, Heer recitals, traditional food stalls, and a local handicrafts bazaar.
Walled City of Lahore Authority DG Kamran Lashari stated, ‘Mela Chiraghan is a symbol of Lahore’s cultural identity, and its revival reflects our commitment to preserving our heritage. This festival not only honours the legacy of Sufi poet Shah Hussain but also serves as a platform to promote inclusivity, creativity, and traditional arts. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this grand event, reconnecting with our roots, and keeping the spirit of Lahore alive.
