Newly-formed Pectaa becomes fully functional

LAHORE:Newly-formed Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (Pectaa) has become fully functional and its first meeting was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Education Minister and Pectaa Chairman Rana Sikandar Hayat here on Friday.

As per details, the objective of forming Pectaa is to perform the functions of the three merged departments - Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board, Punjab Examination Commission and Quaid-i-Azam Academy for Educational Development, including curriculum, book development, teacher training and student assessment, in an integrated and modern manner.

In the first meeting of Pectaa, approval was given for the establishment of Pectaa headquarters, organisational chart and sub-departments. Sub-committees were also formed to carry out various matters under the newly established authority.

In addition, textbooks on Fashion Designing, Communication Skills and Personal Grooming, Agriculture Science and Information and Communication Technology prepared according to the new curriculum for Matric Tech Class IX, as well as various training courses to enhance the capacity of teachers were also approved.

The education minister said that the Board of Governors of Pectaa consisted of top educationists under whose guidance they were laying the foundation for new dimensions in education by adapting the curriculum, training and examinations into an integrated system.

He said that the establishment of Pectaa would improve the quality of education, teaching and training. He also expressed the hope that timely printing and delivery of books will be ensured in every upcoming academic session.

The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Education/Vice Chairperson Pectaa Nosheen Adnan, Secretary Schools Education Khalid Nazir, CEO Pectaa Dr Shahinshah Faisal Azeem and others.
