Man arrested for swindling Rs6m
LAHORE:Misri Shah police arrested a fraudster who allegedly swindled Rs6 million under the guise of a committee scheme.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspect, Naveed, collected cash from a citizen under the pretext of a committee and issued cheques in return. However, when the victim demanded his money back, the suspect disappeared. A case was registered against him.
In another incident, Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit (PRU) arrested a three-member fraudster gang near Thokar Niaz Baig for stealing valuable garments from a passenger. According to Dolphin Squad spokesperson, the victim had loaded expensive garments onto a rickshaw. However, the rickshaw driver, along with his two accomplices, fled with the goods. Upon receiving an emergency call on 15, the PRU team swiftly responded, gathering details about the suspects and their vehicle.
The police tracked them down near Doctors' Hospital and arrested three men, identified as Rashid, Irfan, and Faisal, recovering stolen goods worth millions of rupees. The suspects were handed over to Johar Town police.
Prisoner dies in hospital
A prisoner and an unidentified man lost their lives in two separate incidents in the provincial capital here on Thursday. According to an Edhi Foundation spokesperson, a prisoner from Camp Jail, identified as Muzammal Tayyab, passed away while undergoing treatment in hospital. He was shifted there due to deteriorating health but could not survive. In another incident, police recovered the body of a 35-year-old man from the Lorry Adda area.
The deceased appeared to be a drug addict, but his identity could not be ascertained. Police have shifted both bodies to the morgue via Edhi ambulances.
928 drug peddlers arrested
A total of 928 drug peddlers were arrested in 1,710 raids which were conducted on hideouts across the province during this week. Punjab Police spokesperson said that 548 kilograms of charas, 59 kilograms of heroin, 31 kilograms of ice were recovered from the possession of drug peddlers, while 14 kilograms of opium and more than 8,000 liters of alcohol were also recovered.
Fire erupts in shop
A fire broke out in the basement of a shop near Fawara Chowk, Shah Alam Market, where thread and cardboard were stored.
Upon receiving the alert, rescue emergency teams rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze. No casualties were reported. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
