Self-discipline significance in personal growth highlighted

PESHAWAR: The Department of Criminology at the University of Peshawar in collaboration with Student Societies and the Business Incubation Centre (BIC) on Monday organized a one-day seminar on self-accountability to discuss the significance of self-discipline in governance and personal growth.

The seminar was attended by academicians and students.Advisor to the Chief Minister on Anti-Corruption, Brigadier (Retd) Muhammad Musaddiq Abbasi was the chief guest, while acting vice-chancellor of the university Dr Naeem Qazi was the guest of honour.

Prominent among others who attended the seminar included Dr Muhammad Ibrar, Assistant Professor at the Department of Criminology and Director of Student Societies and Dr Shakeel Ahmed, Director of the Business Incubation Centre.

Dr. Shakeel Ahmed spoke about the importance of self-accountability in nurturing responsible individuals and professionals.He also explained the role of the BIC in fostering an environment of continuous learning and personal development.

Brigadier (Retd.) Muhammad Musaddiq Abbasi said that self-accountability was an important concept, particularly in governance. He said that corruption primarily had two forms - need-based and greed-based. Elite corruption was the most destructive to society, he added.

Addressing the students of the Criminology Department, he stressed the importance of cultivating key life habits and recommended several books to encourage a culture of reading. He also quoted poetry by Allama Iqbal, reinforcing the significance of national unity and the role of religion in strengthening a nation.Dr Naeem Qazi urged the students to incorporate the lessons into their lives. He underlined the need for continuous learning, which was key to the progress of the society.
