Water demand doubles against supply in capital

Islamabad: The demand for water among the residents due to intense heat wave has increased up to 150 million gallon per day while the CDA has the capacity of supplying 74 million gallon thus finding it hard to meet the water requirement in the capital city.

According to the official record, the complaints centres of Capital Development Authority (CDA) are receiving a total of 700 to 800 complaints daily and there are 20 tankers that can entertain a maximum of 450 complaints in twenty four hours.

Various areas especially the I-series residential sectors have been facing water shortage as the civic authority has not been able to utilise available resources to the fullest capacity due to interrupted power supply at the feeders supplying electricity to the CDA tube wells.

"I have registered complaint number of times this week through a telephone call to the complaint centre but no water tanker was sent to us. So we don't have any water for last one week," said Jawad Shah, a resident of I-10/4 sector.

The CDA spokesman said the civic authority is trying its best to meet the requirements in the city but increasing demand and power loadshedding are creating problems, adding "The water supply system is fully functional and water is being supplied from dams and tube wells to the residents."
