A major event was held at the Sindh Governor House on Friday evening to pay tribute to the martyrs and valiant soldiers belonging to the Pakistani armed forces on the occasion of Defence Day that is observed on September 6.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori performed hoisting of the national flag to begin the programme that was attended by families of martyrs belonging to the Pakistani military.

A special stage was built to conduct the programme with colourful lighting arrangement. Diplomats belonging to friendly countries also attended the ceremony.

A documentary film was shown on the occasion to highlight the sacrifices of the armed forces personnel.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said the families of the martyrs of the Pakistani armed forces in attendance were the chief guests of the event.

Tessori recalled that the enemy of Pakistan had attacked the country in a cowardly manner on the night on September 6, 1965. He paid glowing tributes to the army soldiers who had been performing daring duties on the frontiers of Pakistan.

The daring soldiers guarded the borders 24 hours to protect their motherland, he said.

The governor said certain elements had been busy propagating a narrative based on hatred against the armed forces. He mentioned that the three armed forces of Pakistan were fully strong to defend the motherland and the Pakistan Army had been combating the external and internal threats to the security of the country.

He remarked that the Pakistani military was fully supportive of the drive to ensure progress and development of Pakistan. Ethnic and communal violence had come to an end in the country, he said.

Tessori paid tribute to the people who had laid down their lives for the defence of the country. He mentioned that former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was also among those who sacrificed their lives for Pakistan.

He told the audience that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in his past regime decided to demonstrate the nuclear capability of Pakistan in total disregard for the international pressure on his government.

The special documentary shown on the occasion contained special interviews with the family members of martyrs.

Sharjeel’s tribute

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon paid tribute to the courage, bravery, and selfless sacrifices of the armed forces and martyrs on the occasion of Pakistan Defence Day.

He said that 6th September is a day of national unity and that we must unite in solidarity to address the nation's challenges.

In his message on Defence Day, Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Memon said that 6th September is not just a date; it symbolises resistance, national unity, and an unwavering spirit. “On this day, our forces stood as an unbreakable wall against the enemy’s ambitions,” he said.

He added that our martyrs sacrificed their lives not only to protect the borders but also to uphold national sovereignty and dignity. The sacrifices of the martyrs serve as a beacon for the entire nation.

Memon also saluted the families of the martyrs, who have shown unparalleled determination. He further stated that the sacrifices of our forces — including the Pakistan Army, Navy, Air Force, Rangers, Police, and other law enforcement agencies — are eternal in their efforts to protect the nation from both internal and external threats.

He emphasised that the ongoing war against terrorism, and the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives for peace and stability in the region must never be forgotten.
