Sindh police chief orders inspection of police stations
IGP Memon said police are a uniform disciplined force, so it is necessary to deploy the best
KARACHI: Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Monday ordered the inspection of police stations. He also stressed that it is necessary to deploy the best duty officers at police stations in accordance with the requirements of the public.
During a meeting IGP Memon chaired at the Central Police Office, the DIGs discussed all the issues and measures about formal and informal inspections of police stations and sub-departments in terms of police rules and regulations.Memon said that keeping in view the best interest of and services for the public, all the DIGs and SSPs are to ensure formal and informal inspections of the police stations under their respective jurisdictions.
He said that all the possible steps are to be taken to further improve the environment of police stations, and the staff’s training and service measures in the light of the results of the inspections.He directed that the arrangement, security and use of police records and case properties should be ensured, while discipline in the police force should also be ensured.
He said that all the DIGs and SSPs should take steps to increase the available manpower at police stations and ensure the process of placing the unnecessary manpower at the disposal of police stations.
He also said the police are a uniform disciplined force, so it is necessary to deploy the best, most expert and most experienced duty officers at police stations in accordance with the requirements of the public and to ensure people-friendly policing.The IGP ordered proper utilisation of the budget provided to police stations, and making it possible to take all the steps to gradually promote an independent policing process. He also ordered strict action against the drug mafia and the proclaimed offenders involved in drug crimes.
Earlier, the police chief had conducted a meeting about the investigation department and the record management system. The crime & investigation DIG had briefed the meeting on the procedure for the registration of cases in the Police Station Record Management System and other issues.
The DIG said that due to this system, an effective mechanism of digital surveillance would be established with the digital registration of cases and the updating of the action taken in this regard on a daily basis.
“We’re going to ensure a successful and fruitful policing initiative. It will be a system that will undoubtedly bring extraordinary improvements in the investigation and legal sector.”The gender crime & human rights AIG informed the meeting that the Sindh police have the honour of being the first to implement the Sex Offenders Registration Act under the Federal Anti-Rape Act, 2023.
The AIG said that the Anti-Rape (Sex Offenders Register) Rules were formulated on September 13, 2023, under the Federal Anti-Rape (Investigation & Trial) Act, 2021. “These laws will improve the investigation, prosecution and monitoring of rape cases.”
He said that under the SOP, district police officers, the district head of investigation, the legal DSP and the SHO would register in the Sex Offenders Register established at the National Police Bureau regarding the registration, follow-up and verification of sexual offences.Moreover, he added, more training and courses are being organised to improve the investigative capacity of the investigating officers of the special sexual offences investigation units.
The IGP said the Investigation Branch plays a key role in policing and the investigation of cases. “Our criminal justice system is standing on the investigation department, and the improvement of this department is the guarantee of the improvement and the promotion of policing.”He said the Sindh government has also increased the expenses for investigations, including the release of additional basic salary every month, to improve the investigation department.
