Natalie A Baker new US deputy chief in Pakistan
American diplomat has previously served on various key positions such as Washington's Consular Officer in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The US Mission to Pakistan has announced the arrival of Natalie A. Baker as its new deputy chief of mission.
Baker previously held the same position at the US Embassy in Doha, Qatar, a US Embassy news release said Thursday.
Her career includes serving as director of the Office of North African Affairs at the US Department of State, deputy chief and chargé d’affaires ad interim at the US Mission to Libya, deputy director Iran Regional Presence Office at the US Consulate in Dubai, and economic counselor at the US Embassy in Kuwait where she worked with the Defence Department for withdrawal of US forces from Iraq. From 2009-2011, Baker served as political and economic counselor in Libya for normalizing ties after 30-year pause. She remained there until the Libyan Revolution forced the US Embassy to evacuate in February 2011.
Her earlier assignments include special assistant in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, consular officer in Islamabad, and cultural officer in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Baker, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University, has been recognised as a “distinguished graduate” of the National War College, National Defence University, US, in 2017.
