Stoking the flames
Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination will further escalate the war in the Middle East. Hezbollah is already partially at war with Israel and the fact that the killing was perpetrated in Iran will advance and inflame the situation in the region. Outfits like Hamas are always expecting the worst, so there does not seem to be a problem of a vacuum after Ismail’s passing. They must have someone ready to take the reins.
The more dangerous scenario is developing in Lebanon where the focus of the Israeli aggression appears to be shifting. If Israel wants to take this war to the next level then more mayhem is in the offing after this assassination. The United States and other powerful countries who have sway over Israel should come forward and douse the fire before it is too late.
