This letter refers to the article ‘IWD: Challenges ahead (March 8, 2024) by Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin. The article proudly highlights the prominent role Aga Khan University has played in promoting gender equality in Pakistan, with women accounting for two-thirds of its student body and around half of its faculty, as per the writer. This is indeed a spectacular achievement. Pakistani girls and women are proudly breaking patriarchal norms and entering and excelling in almost every field of educational and academic activity.
Men and women working together in institutions can propel Pakistan’s development. Therefore, it should be an official policy in both our public and private sector institutions to ensure equal participation from men and women, with no discrepancies in terms of benefits and facilities. This is key to our long-run national development.
