12-year-old boy assaulted

LAHORE : A 12-year-old boy was subjected to sexual assault in Nawab Town area here on Saturday.

Accused identified as Usman took the boy to a mosque quarters. He raped him there and fled the scene. A case was registered against him on the complaint of victim’s family. He was arrested. Police said investigation was under way.

Man invlolved in illegal currency exchange business arrested

On the directions of Director FIA Lahore Zone Sarfraz Virk, a crackdown on elements involved in illegal currency exchange and Hawala Hundi is ongoing.

A raiding team under Deputy Director Corporate Crime Circle Lahore Sikandar Hayat arrested a person involved in the heinous crime of illegal currency exchange. The raid was conducted on Al Makkah Centre Hall Road of accused Tufail Ahmed. The operation was carried out on receiving secret information. Rs750,000 were recovered from the accused, who has been arrested. Further investigation is under way, an FIA spokesperson said.

Power thief arrested in FIA raid

On the instructions of Director Lahore Zone Sarfraz Virk, a crackdown on the elements involved in electricity theft continued.

Irfan Shabir, the accused involved in electricity theft, was arrested in the raid. According to the FIA spokesperson, the accused’s factory ‘Ghazi Plastic Factory’ was stealing electricity on Bund Road. He accused was involved in tampering with the electricity meter. According to a preliminary report, the accused had tampered with the meter more than 56 times. The action against the accused was carried out on the identification of Lesco officials. Millions of rupees were being lost to the national exchequer due to electricity theft. Further investigation was under way, the spokesperson said.

Two robbers arrested

Tibbi City Police have arrested two suspected robbers on Saturday. The arrested suspects were identified as Imran alias Mana and Waseem.

Police also recovered three mobile phones, one motorbike, cash and illegal weapons. The suspects reportedly were busy planning a robbery bid on backside of trees. On information, police conducted a raid and arrested the suspects. Many cases have been traced to them. Police said that they were investigating the matter further.

IG, Prosecutor General Punjab sign MoU

Prosecutor General Punjab Farhad Ali Shah visited Central Police Office and met IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar on Saturday. They jointly chaired an important meeting, in which all RPOs, CPOs, DPOs, District Public Prosecutors participated through video link.

Deputy Prosecutor Generals Sultan Akbar Chatta, Arshad Ali Farooqui, Ahmad Saeed, Usman Iqbal, Abdul Quddus, District Public Prosecutor Lahore Imtiaz Cheema were present in the meeting.

In the meeting, it was agreed to make the direct coordination between the Central Police Office and the Prosecutor General Punjab more effective. Prosecutor General Punjab and IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar signed the MoU of working SOPs.

Usman on the occasion said that all units including the police and prosecution have an important and equal role in the criminal justice system. In the meeting, a plan of action was decided to complete the challan of the pending cases of the last four years.

Prosecutor General Punjab Farhad Ali Shah said that he will provide a special team of prosecutors to complete the challan in the next 14 days and joint efforts will remove the loopholes causing delay in the cases under investigation. He added that joint teams consisting of police and prosecutors will work together on the challan of the cases under investigation. PITB should take effective measures to update the data of under-investigation cases on the software mechanism. IG Punjab further said that seminars for police and prosecutors will be organised for functional specialisation and prosecutorial conduct, IGP Punjab said that to reduce the workload in the investigation wing, additional human resources have been provided after the departmental promotion process.
