ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Headquarters after taking charge of the office.
The minister issued instructions for promotions in all ranks within the FIA in next 30 days, reflecting the promotion policy implemented in every department in Punjab.
On the occasion, FIA Director General Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir and other senior officials welcomed the minister.
The minister presided over a meeting of FIA senior officials where he was briefed on institutional matters.
The minister was apprised of FIA performance in combating human trafficking, financial crimes, including money laundering, referencing, illegal currency exchange, corruption, and cybercrime.
The interior minister expressed satisfaction and appreciated the FIA performance.
He expressed his determination to make the FIA an international level institute.
Effective strategies should be adopted to prevent human trafficking, the minister said, adding that the latest technology should be used to arrest elements involved in Hundi and illegal currency exchange.
Strict action should be taken against the manufacturers of fake medicines and their networks should be eradicated, he maintained. More police stations should be established to increase the efficiency of cybercrime wing, he added.
Professional training and institutional development of FIA employees should be prioritised for capacity building. The FIA should play a role in curbing electricity theft, he declared.
The minister has sought a report on the incident involving a shipwreck near Greece.
Naqvi said that a comprehensive plan to prevent smuggling of dollars from the country should be developed.
