ISLAMABAD: The long-awaited Congress meeting of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has been convened for March 21 here at the Pakistan Sports Complex with a single point agenda to seek the vote of confidence for the nominated President Tariq Masoori Bugti.

Rana Mujahid, secretary PHF, has told ‘The News’ that the meeting has been convened for March 21 at the PSB Complex to seek the vote of confidence for nominated President PHF Tariq Bugti.

Former prime minister, who by portfolio was also the patron-in-chief of the PHF, nominated Tariq Hussain Masoori Bugti as president PHF. As required under the constitution, the nominated president PHF has yet to take the vote of confidence.

“The meeting on March 21 has been convened to seek the vote of confidence for the newly-nominated president of the federation,” Mujahid said.Seeking a vote of confidence from the House is a must to handle and approve the PHF’s finances and to take far reaching decisions. The PHF Congress that met in Lahore in December 2023 reposed confidence in the former president PHF Brig (r) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar who later resigned from the post, paving the way for nominated president to take over the federation’s responsibilities after seeking vote of confidence.

Around 65 Congress members (out of 96) reposed trust in Khokhar (president), Rana Mujahid (secretary), and Pervaiz Bandara (treasurer).“Under the FIH and PHF constitution, Congress is the supreme authority, having the powers to uphold or reject all decisions on hockey affairs in the country. Almost 65 percent of Congress members reposed trust in the elected office-bearers. Convening Congress meetings was a must to validate the presence of elected office-bearers. The members voted against all illegal acts that are tantamount to undermining the FIH and PHF constitution,” then president Khokhar told The News.Khokhar later resigned after amicably settling his differences with the newly-nominated president.
