LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has declared a petition seeking removal of Sadiq Sanjrani from the position of Senate chairman as non-maintainable upholding registrar office objection on the powers of jurisdiction of court regarding the petition.
The petition filed by one Mashkoor Hussain came up for hearing before Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan of on Tuesday. Sadiq Sanjrani, Election Commission of Pakista and others were made respondents in the petition.
The petitioner took the plea that Sanjrani contested election on a seat of provincial assembly of Balochistan and he won the seat. The ECP issued notification of his success, Sanjrani could not retain two seats at a time.
Sanjrani is working as chairman Senate illegally, the petition contended.
The petitioner requested that the ECP should order to declare Sanjrani’s seat as senator vacant and restrain him from working as the Upper House of Parliament chairman.
The court, while maintaining registrar office objection on the court’s powers of jurisdiction, declared the petition as non-maintainable.
